The first half of 2026 seemed more jam-packed than years previous. A lot of wonderful stories in many different genres made a big splash!

2025 had a lot of interesting movies from many different genres. Superheroes, documentaries, vampires, and murder mysteries all made the list, just to name a few.

The first half of 2025 has felt long, with everything going on. And there weren't as many powerful releases as some of the past years. Still there have been some fun ones that offer great escapes.

2024 had a wide variety of films that made a splash, and this year more than others seemed like it had something for everyone.

We are only 6 months into the year, and the cinematic landscape has been jam packed. In a pleasant surprise, there have been great documentaries and original movies so far this year too.

2023 will always be remembered as the year of "Barbenheimer". But there were plenty of other gems that granted our screens too.

2022 was an interesting year for movies. While huge blockbusters kept movie theaters alive, other films found audiences in other ways. The industry is changing, and it is nice to see movies still finding its way to screens.

The first half of 2022 had a lot of heavy hitters. There are a few films on here that will definitely be in the end of the year list. A few others are some small gems that should be sought out. Below are 3 honorable mentions and then my top 10 favorite films of the year so far.

2021 still had box office issues and non-traditional releases due to the global pandemic. But there was still magic to be found, if you knew where to look. A lot of great things came out this year, and I was fortunate enough to see many wonderful things.

The first half of 2021 was still feeling that COVID lag of 2020. There wasn't a regular slate of movies in the last 6 months, but there were still some gems hidden in there. Below are 3 honorable mentions and then my top 10 favorite films of the year so far.

2020 has been a year like no other. The world has changed, and it affected our entertainment. Many big movies that I expected to be on the list were delayed. Some were released, but in different formats than I expected to see them. Still, despite everything, 2020 gave us some wonderful gems. There was power, hope, laughter, love, and purpose in many of the stories this year, right when we needed them most.

This has been a regular feature on my site since I launched it in 2017. The format has stayed pretty much the same. This year, things will be a bit different though. They kind of have to be.

2019 marked the end of the decade that gave us plenty of wonderful cinematic treats. It ended a lot of long form stories, such as things in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and the Star Wars universe. It also gave us new films from Quentin Tarantino and Martin Scorsese, which are always worth noting. There were old friends back, and new friends introduced. 2019 will definitely be a year to remember in terms of cinematic achievement.

The first half of 2019 had some interesting films released, both theatrically and on streaming platforms. There was a 5 or 6 week stretch that I was at the movies every weekend - sometimes twice in the same weekend. Below are my favorite films from the first half of the year. There are 3 honorable mentions, and then my 10 favorite.

2018 was remarkable in terms of cinematic milestones. Some of my favorite movies of the decade will have been released this year. This is the hardest list yet that I have had to put together. Quick Note : Due to my location and/or financial situation, I haven't been able to watch every movie released this year that I wanted to, so there will be gaps in this list. Some of these films were limited runs that don't play around here, and others I just simply couldn't afford to drive to or go see at the time. I'm sure at least a few of those would have made the list, but they were not one of the 57 films released in 2018 that I have seen. After that, I will list every film that was released this year that I have seen, that way you can see what I had to choose from! Half the year is over! There have been some great movies out already, with even better ones to come. So let's breakdown my favorite films of the year so far. How many have you seen?

2017 has been quite the cinematic journey. There has been a smattering of great films throughout the whole year, not just in the summer and award season. Below is my list of my favorite movies of the year!

This seems to happen entirely too often now, but there is another Star Wars movie without its original director. To be honest, I was not sold on it to begin with and now they need to essentially start over. Since  Episode IX  will mark the 11th  Star Wars  movie, I have compiled a list below of 11 Directors who I think should be given the reigns.

Well, here we are entering July with half of 2017 over and done with. It’s been an interesting year to say the least, and amid the madness there have been some great movies released this year. We still have six months left for even better things to come out, but let’s pause to recap my favorite movies of the first half of the year.

Fight scenes in movies can make or break the entire film. There can be good fights in bad films, but bad fights usually break a good movie. I got to thinking of what fight scenes I like best, regardless of the quality of movie they take place in. I wanted to share the fights that resonated with me the most. There are many more fights that I love, and maybe even some “better” fights. But these are the ones I kept coming back to, and they all have something unique or special about them that make them stand out. That is why this piece isn’t called “The Best” fights, just my favorites. So, here we go!
