2019 marked the end of the decade that gave us plenty of wonderful cinematic treats. It ended a lot of long form stories, such as things in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and the Star Wars universe. It also gave us new films from Quentin Tarantino and Martin Scorsese, which are always worth noting. There were old friends back, and new friends introduced. 2019 will definitely be a year to remember in terms of cinematic achievement.

The first half of 2019 had some interesting films released, both theatrically and on streaming platforms. There was a 5 or 6 week stretch that I was at the movies every weekend - sometimes twice in the same weekend. Below are my favorite films from the first half of the year. There are 3 honorable mentions, and then my 10 favorite.

There are a few movies each generation that reinvents the genre it is classified in. In 2014, John Wick  did that for the action genre. While John Wick: Chapter 2  expanded the mythology of the universe, it was a bit uneven when it came to the balance of storytelling and action. Luckily,  John Wick: Chapter 3   is perfectly balanced.
